10 Tips on How to Make Your Perfume Last Longer

Isn't it amazing to enter a room with the sillage of jasmine, sandalwood or vanilla announcing your arrival? Which can be tricky to accomplish if your perfume wears off after a couple of hours.

But a few simple tricks can help your perfume last longer and help you get the most out of your favourite scent.

Tips on How to Make Your Perfume Last Longer

1. Apply on your pulse points.

There's a functional reason we apply perfume on our pulse points, like our wrists and elbows, behind our ears and neck. The skin is thin at those points, making it close to your blood and body heat; as the fragrance warms, the aroma process forms.

2. Don't rub your wrists together.

Once you apply it to your pulse points, it may feel intuitive to rub your wrists together to blot the fragrance. But we advise against it because the top notes burn off quicker. But if you want to blend two scents, try tapping your wrists together instead of creating friction.

3. Spray your heart.

Since applying perfume on your pulse points helps radiate the scent, why not apply it where your pulse is strongest?

4. Spritz after a shower.

You might've heard it before: spritz your perfume after a shower because the steam helps to open up the aroma. Your body temperature is higher, which helps to diffuse the fragrance. Also, your skin is clean and free from excess oil, which can buffer the scent.

5. Apply hair mists.

While applying perfumes to your hair might be damaging, a delicate hair mist will bring freshness while enveloping the hair in a long-lasting light scent. Carner Barcelona has some of our favourite hair perfumes, like Tardes, Latin Lover and Bo-Bo.

6. Keep your skin hydrated.

Hydrated skin is essential for many reasons. But if you need another reason to pamper your skin barrier, hydrated and moisturized skin will also hold your fragrance much longer.

7. Layer your fragrances.

If you have a scented body oil or cream, layering it under your perfume can enhance the fragrance and keep your skin hydrated, making both aromas last longer. For this reason, some brands will even offer a body oil and perfume duo, but you could always choose different products with scents that complement each other well.

8. Spray your clothes.

Spraying your clothes will hold the perfume longer on the fabric than on your skin. Natural oils can accumulate throughout the day, making the scent wear off. Have you ever worn a shirt that still smells like last week's perfume or borrowed a loved one's scarf and noticed how it carries their signature scent? The fabric holds on to fragrance - and the memories tied to it.

9. Eau de Parfum.

You've definitely seen one of these perfume labels: Eau de Toilette, Eau de Parfum and Extrait de Parfum. Eau de Parfum and Extrait de Parfum have a higher concentration of fragrance oil, which makes them stronger and longer-lasting. On the other hand, Eau de toilette is often beloved for a lighter, airier application.

10. Check the base notes.

All of your base notes will last longer. For example, musk, vanilla, and wood notes will last longer on the skin. Floral and citrus top notes are ones you will smell immediately but are gone the quickest.

That said, if you love floral fragrances, make sure they have musk, amber, and wooden base notes.
